Frequently Asked Questions

What are the eligibility requirements for Premium Forwarding Service Local?

The PO Box must be active and paid, and the person making the request must be the box holder on file from the original PO Box application. The PO Box and the street address that you wish to have the mail forwarded to must be serviced by the same Post Office facility. The PO Box must not be a Group E PO Box, or part of a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA). The primary or secondary address must not be an APO/FPO or DPO, or an address within the 3-digit 969 ZIP Code area. Customers who have an active PFS-Residential or PFS-Commercial order, an active Hold Mail authorization, or an active Change-of-Address (temporary or permanent) are also not eligible.

How are the Premium Forwarding Service Local prices calculated?

All prices on the Postal Store include the $24.10 annual enrollment fee and account for 1 container of mail per delivery day. The prices are calculated as follows:

2019 Tactile, Sensory, & Interactive Mailpiece Engagement Promotion

PFS-L Daily

52 weeks a year x 6 days a week = 312 days

312 days – 11 non-delivery holidays = 301 deliveries

301 deliveries x $26.20 container fee = $7,886.20

$7,886.20 + $24.10 annual enrollment fee = $7,910.30

PFS-L 1x Weekly

52 weeks a year x $26.20 container fee = $1,362.40

$1,362.40 + $24.10 annual enrollment fee = $1,386.50

PFS-L 2x Weekly

52 weeks a year x 2 times a week = 104 deliveries

104 deliveries x $26.20 container fee = $2,724.80

$2,724.80 + $24.10 annual enrollment fee = $2,748.90

PFS-L 3x Weekly

52 weeks a year x 3 times a week = 156 deliveries

156 deliveries x $26.20 container fee = $4,087.20

$4,087.20 + $24.10 annual enrollment fee = $4,111.30

PFS-L Monthly

12 months a year x $26.20 container fee = $314.40

$314.40 + $24.10 annual enrollment fee = $338.50

What is the container fee?

A container is what the Post Office will use to place all of your PO Box mail in for the carrier to deliver to your specified forwarding street address. It may be an envelope, box, or tub to fit a large volume of mail. If all your items will not fit into one large container, multiple containers may be required and additional container fees will be charged. The PFS-Local prices listed on The Postal Store account for one container per delivery day.

What if more than one container per delivery day is needed?

The annual prepaid price for Premium Forwarding Service Local on The Postal Store is calculated based on one container per day. If additional containers are needed, based on mail volume, the length of service will be adjusted accordingly. Once all purchased containers have been used, you will be contacted about providing additional funding to continue your forwarding service.

If there is no mail available to forward, is the container charge refunded?

If no mail is available to forward, there is no charge. For residential orders purchased on The Postal Store, USPS will maintain a count of the number of additional containers used, and the number of no mail days. If the number of no mail days exceeds the number of additional containers used, a refund will be issued at the end of the service period. If the number of containers used exceeds what was purchased, you will be contacted and required to provide additional funding to continue the service.

For business customers who purchase PFS-L service through Business Customer Gateway, the charges will be automatically deducted from the permit account as needed, and no charge will be deducted when there is no mail to forward.
