Commemorative Stamps

Stamps are the story of us, and what a powerful story they each tell. America's greatest people, places and moments are memorialized here, honored in the art and story of commemorative stamps.
Here, Heritage is our Hero®.

  • Black Heritage Richard Allen Headline

Holding a legacy of determination, charity, and faith, Richard Allen (1760-1831) was an inspiring figure whose life and work helped shape American History. After purchasing his own freedom from slavery and making a name for himself as a traveling minister throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Allen quickly rose to prominence as a civic leader, successful businessman, and pioneering church official. This stamp coincides with the 200th anniversary of Allen’s founding of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, which continues to thrive today with more than 2.5 million members.

First day of issue: February 2, 2016 Philadelphia, PA

The Richard Allen Stamp is being issued as a Forever® stamp. Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail® one-ounce price, which is $0.50.
