Photo of Artist // John Mattos

Illustrator John Mattos is well known for his art deco poster graphic designs. His posters commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Hoover Dam and the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge hang in the permanent collection of the U.S. Library of Congress. His clients have included many prominent corporations and publications such as Apple, Adobe, Aerosmith, Disney, TIME, and Newsweek.

Mattos was an early stamp designer: As a child growing up on a ranch in Modesto, California, he painted stamp designs featuring family dogs and events directly onto envelopes. In 2006, in his first project for the U.S. Postal Service®, Mattos saw his childhood artistic efforts culminate into the real thing—an official commemorative stamp. He designed the Seabiscuit Stamped Envelope issued by the Postal Service™ in 2009. More recently, he created the stamp art for the Indianapolis 500 issuance, Bicycling, and Hot Rods.
