Q. Do I get a signature with Delivery Confirmation?
A. A signature is not obtained with Delivery Confirmation service. However, if you need a signature, you can purchase Signature Confirmation™ service, our new proof of delivery service that will provide you an on-demand copy of the signature and the printed name, as well as Delivery Confirmation information. This service will capture the signature of the recipient.
Q. Are there labels for Delivery Confirmation? If so, where can I get them?
A. Yes. The retail label (PS Form 152) is fluorescent green with a detachable receipt and is available at your local Post Office. Or, you can print online Shipping Labels for Priority Mail on this Web site and qualify for the no-fee electronic rate.
High-volume shippers can also print their own labels or order preprinted labels from the Postal Service. (Refer to the Domestic Mail Manual, section C850 or Publication 91 for additional information.)
Q. Can I combine Delivery Confirmation with Certified Mail service?
A. No, it cannot be combined with Certified Mail. Typically, customers use Certified Mail service on First-Class Mail letters.
Delivery Confirmation service is designed for domestic Priority Mail and for parcels mailed at First-Class Mail and Package Services rates.
Q. If I combine Delivery Confirmation with another Extra Service, which article number do I use to access information on my mailed item (e.g., insured mail number or Delivery Confirmation number)?
A. Each number is valid for a different purpose. The Delivery Confirmation number is used to access delivery status information through our Web page or toll-free number.
The insurance number is used for filing an indemnity claim. (If you combine Delivery Confirmation with Registered Mail service you can use either number to access delivery information online).
Shippers who print their own barcodes have an opportunity to print just one barcode when Delivery Confirmation and Insured services are combined. (Refer to the Domestic Mail Manual, section C850 or Publication 91 for additional information.)
Q. Can I deposit a Delivery Confirmation mail piece in a collection box?
A. Yes. You may do so if you printed online Shipping Labels with PC Postage service.
Items with postage meter strips can be deposited in collection boxes when:
The correct postage, fees and labels are affixed.
The return address is on the mail piece.
Items under 16 ounces with postage stamps can be deposited in collection boxes when:
The correct postage, fees and labels are affixed.
The return address is on the mail piece.
Note: All stamped items weighing 16 ounces or more must be presented in person at a local Post Office for acceptance in accordance with Federal Aviation Agency requirements.
Q. Can city and rural letter carriers accept Delivery Confirmation pieces from customers on their route if the Form 152 is affixed?
A. Yes, as long as the correct postage and fees have been applied, the Delivery Confirmation label (PS Form 152) is affixed to the mailpiece, and a return address is included on the mailing.
Rural route customers may give the carrier money to cover the postage and fees. Rural route customers may get a date-stamped receipt for the postage paid, but city route customers will not obtain a date-stamped receipt (proof of mailing).
Note: Items weighing over 16 ounces may be presented by the sender known to the postal carrier at the sender's residence or place of business.
Q. What if there is no delivery information available when I call the toll-free number or visit the Web site?
A. If there is no delivery (or other information such as attempted or forwarded) available, you will be told that there is no record of that mail item. If it was mailed recently, it may still be in transit. We recommend you try your inquiry again later.
Q. What does it mean when the Internet response is, "The system is unable to respond to that query. Please try again later"?
A. This message indicates the system is busy or out of service. As with any Internet system, performance can be adversely affected by many outside influences. If you receive this message in the future while making a Delivery Confirmation inquiry, please try again at a later time.
Q. What if I know my package arrived and there is still no delivery information available?
A. If there are no delivery scans in our system, and you know your package has been delivered, you can request a refund for the Delivery Confirmation fee (but not the postage). A refund of the service fee can be requested if delivery information is not available 30 days from the date of mailing.
You may apply for a refund of the Delivery Confirmation service fee on a PS Form 3533, Application and Voucher for Refund of Postage and Fees. Submit it in duplicate to your local Post Office, along with evidence of postage and mailing.
