Delivery Confirmation helps customers get fast, dependable online access
WASHINGTON The past holiday mailing season was the best ever for customers who used our Delivery Confirmation service, thanks to a combined effort by Marketing and Information Technology.
Customers waited less than two seconds, on average, to get a response when they went online to check the status of their Delivery Confirmation mail.
The Internet service was accessible to USPS customers an impressive 99.8% of the time, above the industry average.
Add the fact that our intranet site, Blue, was accessible to employees 99.8% of the time, and the availability of the Delivery Confirmation database to customers and employees was spectacular.
Over 98% of the time, Delivery Confirmation information was available online at www.usps.com within one hour of being transmitted by the carrier or sales associate during the busy holiday season.
"IT was able to exceed its commitments to the Delivery Confirmation program office by preparing months in advance of the holiday season, upgrading our Web servers and streamlining operational practices that support Delivery Confirmation," said Chief Technology Officer Bob Otto.
"Also, we boosted systems that receive and forward scan data from 350,000 hand-held scanners used to verify delivery," Otto said.
