HEROES CORNER. New Brunswick, NJ, Sales and Services Associate Jaime Ayala has been building community trust and support for the Postal Service during his 32-year career. His service to the New Brunswick Post Office's growing Hispanic community has helped USPS reach many new customers. Ayala's friendly demeanor, bilingual skills and product knowledge have made him a customer favorite.
As treasurer of the non-profit Puerto Rican Action Board, he is working to improve the lives of the low-income residents in Central New Jersey. He is active in a bilingual/multicultural preschool program that serves local children and their families. He also works with the Middlesex County weatherization assistance program, which helps residents insulate their homes and save money on their fuel bills.

PROPOSED SETTLEMENT. A proposed settlement has been reached in the class action known as Chandler Glover and Dean Albrecht, et al., v. John E. Potter, EEOC No. 320-A2-8011X. The proposed settlement affects permanent rehabilitation employees of the United States Postal Service between Jan. 1, 1992 and Nov. 20, 2003 allegedly denied promotional and/or advancement opportunities due to discrimination on the basis of disability. RATE COMMISSION NOMINEE. President Bush will nominate National Association of Postmasters of the United States member Dawn Tisdale to serve as a commissioner of the Postal Rate Commission (PRC). The PRC is an independent regulatory agency that reviews Postal Service requests for changes in postal rates, fees and mail classification. Tisdale served as Postmaster in Smithville, TX, from 1989 to 2000. If confirmed by the Senate, Tisdale would serve the remainder of a six-year term expiring in November 2006.
SANTA'S HELPERS. It was another busy Christmas season at North Pole Station in Fairbanks, AK. Employees canceled 80,000 holiday cards and letters with a special postmark a 15% increase over last holiday's total of 70,000.
MISSING LETTER. Northern Virginia District BSN Representative Anthony Prisco was the employee who helped USPS score a big sale (Link, 2/12). His last name was misspelled.
