PARS for the course
New redirection system gets in a practice round

Easy, Tiger... we're not talking golf, here. This is about the postal automated redirection system (PARS) and its first article acceptance test in the Central Florida District. Pre-testing began Sept. 15 and is scheduled to be completed mid-November.

the postal automated redirection system (PARS) When it's fully operational, PARS is expected to intercept and automatically apply the new address label on the majority of forwardable mail. The Postal Service processes more than 43 million change-of-address orders and forwards more than 2 billion pieces of mail each year. PARS will improve mail service for customers receiving forwarded mail by eliminating multiple handlings.

If all goes well with the testing, deployment of PARS to 53 P&DCs will begin in January 2004. Eighty-six CFS units will receive equipment to scan change-of-address forms. PARS is expected to be fully deployed by 2006.
