A slap in the face; a kick in the pants
An open letter from Azeez Jaffer to all USPS employees
FOX-TV doesn't seem to think much of us. Maybe that's why they plan to run a "Mad TV" segment this Saturday night about "postal workers getting into the holiday spirit." It involves a Post Office lobby, USPS employees, customers and guns. One clerk says to another, "This is my killing spree." The other answers, "What do you say we share the killing spree?"
I've never asked for your help before, but I need you with me on this. For the last year, I've worked to "Set the Record Straight" whenever a media outlet took an unfair swipe at the Postal Service or its employees. This time, I hope you'll help me set the record straight.
I'm mad as heck and I'm not going to take it any more. This skit is unfair. It's ugly. It's untrue. It's an insult to every man and woman in the Postal Service. As our new commercial says, no one works harder or goes farther to keep us all connected for the holidays. That was true in 2001 when you were at the front lines in the war on terror. It was true last year. It's just as true this year. And this is what we get from FOX.
Together, we're going to turn the volume up so high that muckety-mucks at FOX hear us loud and clear and yank this insulting piece. Funny's funny. But this skit isn't. Let's take the skit and a lump of coal and stuff it in FOX's Christmas stocking with the clear message: "Return to Sender!"
So, I hope you'll join me in sharing your thoughts with Sandy Grushow, chairman of the FOX entertainment group. His number is 310-369-5962. Fax: 310-369-8726. E-mail: sandyg@fox.com.
