Quotable Quotes . . . "The (Bush) administration found time to appoint a Presidential Commission on the U.S. Postal Service ... It seems to me that this is a perfect time for a commission to focus on long-term structural and viability issues ... This may be the Postal Service's and the mailing industry's one shot at the apple for a long time. Let's hope that … the commission hits its target."

CHRISTMAS DELIVERIES. USPS carriers were spotted making Express Mail deliveries in many locations nationwide on Christmas Day. And in the spirit of the holidays, some of them made their rounds decked out in Santa suits.

NEW ISSUES. A new definitive stamp and a new stamped envelope will be issued at the ARIPEX stamp show Jan. 24-26 in Tucson, AZ. A 10-cent regular-issue stamp depicting an American Clock will be issued Jan. 24, while a Nurturing Love stamped envelope in both No. 10 and 6-3/4 sizes will be issued Jan. 25.

The 10-cent American Clock definitive stamp will be issued in self-adhesive panes of 20 stamps. It is the second issue in the American Design series, following the 5-cent American Toleware coil stamp issued earlier this year.

The Nurturing Love stamped envelopes will be the first Love stamped envelopes to be offered at the new 37-cent First-Class rate. The individual envelopes sell for 45 cents each — 37 cents postage and 8 cents for the envelope. Additional details and images of the new issues are on the Web at www.usps.com.

BOARD MEETING. The USPS Board of Governors will hold its regular monthly meeting Jan. 6-7 at USPS Headquarters at L'Enfant Plaza in Washington, DC. While Monday's meeting is held in closed session, the Tuesday meeting is open for the public to observe. It begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Ben Franklin Room.
