Quotable Quotes . . . "Nobody can accuse President Bush of lacking holiday spirit this year. The White House mailed out at least one million Christmas cards to presidential friends and associates. That's an all-time presidential record."
   — Steve Inskeep, host, Weekend All Things Considered, National Public Radio, Dec. 22

PROTECTING PRIVACY. The Postal Service has always maintained high standards for customer privacy. To increase the privacy protections it offers customers, USPS has completely reorganized its customer-related Privacy Act system of records. "The new systems are designed to provide customers with a comprehensive view of Postal Service privacy and data management practices," said Chief Privacy Officer Zoe Strickland. "It was a year-long process that illustrates the high standards for privacy the Postal Service sets for its customers."

The Privacy Act of 1974 requires federal agencies to publish detailed notices describing the safeguards used to ensure the privacy of personal information maintained in its records systems. Those systems have been updated for accuracy, clarity and the use of standardized data practices. The notice describing the revised systems for USPS customers was published in the Dec. 16 Federal Register.

HOLIDAY SAFETY. USPS reminds customers and employees to use caution during the holiday season at work and at home. Be alert to safety and security hazards, winter weather and driving conditions, and the safety precautions necessary for holiday decorations such as lighting and Christmas trees. And with children out of school during the holidays, watch for them near roadways, parks and playgrounds. Safe holidays are happy holidays!
