GIFTS GOING OVERSEAS. Even though it's already December, USPS still offers a number of mailing choices with a range of prices and mailing deadlines that can deliver those packages overseas in plenty of time for the holidays.
- Global Express Guaranteed, two-to-three days, mail by Dec. 20 for delivery by Christmas. Guaranteed delivery to more than 200 countries, tracking included. Rates for documents start at $24 for one-half pound, $36 for merchandise, one pound.
- Global Express Mail, three-to-five days, mail by Dec. 17. Goes to more than 190 countries, with tracking to more than 60 countries. Prices start at $15.50 for one pound.
- Global Priority Mail, four-to-six days, mail by Dec. 16. Goes to more than 50 major countries, restricted to items weighing less than four pounds. Prices start at $4 for a small Global Priority Mail envelope, $7 for a larger one. Customers can use their own packaging with a Global Priority Mail sticker.
- Global Airmail Parcel Post, four-to-10 days, mail by Dec. 9 to Central or South America or Africa, or by Dec. 11 to the rest of the world. Service offered to virtually every country. Prices start at $13 for a one-pound parcel.
COMMEMORATIVES COMING. Three new 37-cent commemorative stamps will be introduced in January. On Jan. 7, a stamp honoring Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall will be introduced in Washington, DC. The stamp is part of the ongoing Black Heritage series.
The Year of the Ram part of the Lunar New Year series will be marked with a ceremony Jan. 13 in Chicago, IL. Author Zora Neale Hurston will be commemorated with a stamp in the Literary Arts series Jan. 24 in Eatonville, FL.
Looking ahead, a souvenir sheet with 10 designs will honor American Filmmaking: Behind the Scenes, Feb. 25 in Los Angeles; the Bicentennial of Ohio Statehood will be marked March 1 in Chillicothe, OH; and the centennial of Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge will be celebrated March 14 at Vero Beach, FL.
