PERFORMANCE, SALES UP. Scan performance recorded an all-time high 96 percent for Delivery Confirmation Package Service in FY 2002 AP 10, May 18-June 4. Roughly 25 percent of customers who purchase Delivery Confirmation go to www.usps.com to check the status of their items. And, Delivery Confirmation sales are second only to Certified Mail, averaging approximately 169 million per year.
REPORTS ON THE WEB. After nearly 25 years of use, the current Mail Condition Reporting System (MCRS) will be replaced on the first day of the upcoming fiscal year (FY 2003, Sept. 7, 2002) with a new web-based application called WEBMCRS. Network Operations Management at USPS Headquarters use MCRS data to identify problems in the processing, distribution and dispatch of mail, and to take corrective action to improve overall network operations efficiency. Area coordinators will receive training on the new system this month. Field training is scheduled for August.
LIFE ON LE TOUR. The journey is well underway for the USPS Pro Cycling Team and Lance Armstrong as they strive to win a fourth consecutive Tour de France. With the ninth stage of the grueling month-long race complete, Lance Armstrong has moved up solidly into second place, only 26 seconds off the leader. Mountain stages - at which Armstrong traditionally excels - begin later this week after yesterday's rest and travel day. SAN FRANCISCO SEGWAY TEST. The latest USPS test of the Segway Human Transporter (HT) began Monday in San Francisco on five residential letter carrier routes, each with approximately 400 delivery addresses. San Francisco Postmaster Rosemarie Fernandez says her office looks forward to "giving the Segway HT a thorough evaluation."
SNEAK PEEK: CARY GRANT. The Cary Grant commemorative postage stamp was unveiled to the public Monday night on television's Access Hollywood. The new 37-cent stamp in the popular "Legends of Hollywood" series will be issued later this year in Los Angeles, CA. The exact date for the issuance is still pending, but will likely be in September or October.
