Postal Service Releases 'A Customer's Guide To Mailing'

BOSTON, MA - Promoting greater ease of use for postal customers, the Postal Service today released a self-help book that helps customers choose the best products and services to meet their most routine mailing needs.

Called "A Customer's Guide to Mailing," the 24-page booklet provides clear, concise information, including illustrations, tips, and real-life examples. It was created by the Postal Service to serve the needs of the 7 million people who visit post offices each day who are looking for simplification, faster service and less stressful ways to manage their household business. "It also is a tool for postal employees who customers rely on as important sources of information when making mailing decisions," said Anita Bizzotto, Chief Marketing Officer for the Postal Service.

"What sets this apart from other manuals created by the Postal Service is that it reflects the needs and questions of the people who have to use it - our customers," said Bizzotto. "A Customer's Guide to Mailing" also can help customers avoid trips to the post office by directing them to www.usps.com, where they can buy stamps; print mailing labels, look up ZIP Codes, and calculate postage rates.

"A customer no longer has to guess about which service to use," said Bizzotto. "A Customer's Guide to Mailing" helps them make the decision that best meets their needs." It also includes helpful information about changing an address, putting mail on temporary hold, and choosing extra services such as Insurance or Delivery Confirmation.

"A Customer's Guide to Mailing" is the first in a Series of books that replace the Domestic Mail Manual (DMM). The current DMM is the document that is the basis of domestic mailing standards. It's a complex document full of complicated directions, instructions and phrases. Other books in the Series focus on beginning and small bulk mailers, small businesses and nonprofit organizations; and professional mailers.

Beginning in late September, "A Customer's Guide to Mailing" is available for free from local post offices. It is also available online at www.usps.com.
