U.S. Postal Service Contest Gives Small Business Owners Chance To Share Their Success Stories

WASHINGTON, D.C. - By simply sharing their business success stories, when entering the Postal Service's "Real People. Real Success" contest, small business owners across the country will get the chance to have their business featured in more than 20,000 post offices nationwide. Also, they have the opportunity for additional prizes including exceptional business computer equipment packages from IBM and gift cards worth up to $10,000 provided by OPEN: The Small Business Network from American Express.

As of Saturday, August 10, small business owners could enter the contest via www.usps.com/realsuccess by writing in 125 words or less how Postal Service products have helped their business. The contest, which ends on October 18, consists of one grand prize, five first-place prizes and 15 second-place prizes.

"The Postal Service values its small business customers and the 'Real People. Real Success.' contest is another way we can show our gratitude for their business," said Anita Bizzotto, senior vice-president and Chief Marketing Officer of the U.S. Postal Service. "The stories conveyed by the small business owners will also be used to give other business owners concrete examples of how the Postal Service can help them grow their businesses."

The Postal Service will feature the winners of the contest and their businesses in more than 20,000 post office lobbies across the United States in 2003. Some of the additional prizes for the contest include:
  • Guest appearance on the national PBS TV show, Small Business School.

Since 1775, the U.S. Postal Service has connected friends, families, neighbors and businesses by mail. It is an independent federal agency that makes deliveries to 137 million addresses every day and is the only service provider to deliver to every address in the nation. The Postal Service receives no taxpayer dollars for routine operations, but derives its operating revenues solely from the sale of postage, products and services. With annual revenues of more than $65 billion, it is the world's leading provider of mail and delivery services, offering some of the most affordable postage rates in the world. The U.S. Postal Service delivers more than 43 percent of the world's mail volume - some 207 billion letters, advertisements, periodicals and packages a year - and serves 7 million customers each day at its 38,000 retail locations nationwide.
