POSTAGE SALES TO HELP "STAMP OUT" PET OVERPOPULATION
PETsMART Stores to sell U.S. Postal Service 'Neuter or Spay' Stamps

two new 37-cent First-Class Neuter or Spay commemorative stampsWASHINGTON - The U.S. Postal Service and PETsMART, Inc. have launched a joint promotion to sell the new Neuter or Spay commemorative postage stamps in PETsMART stores. Starting Friday, Sept. 20, PETsMART will sell the stamps at all U.S. stores to increase awareness of pet overpopulation and the importance of neutering or spaying pets. Stamps also are available at all U.S. Post Offices.

"We are so pleased that PETsMART has chosen to help raise awareness of pet overpopulation by selling the Neuter or Spay postage stamps," said Catherine Caggiano, Executive Director of Stamp Services for the Postal Service. "Their reputation as a strong corporate citizen is greatly reflected in their ongoing support of this issue and project."

The 37-cent Neuter or Spay stamps featuring an adopted puppy and kitten are expected to be popular with pet owners of all ages. To see the Neuter or Spay stamps, visit www.usps.com or www.petsmart.com.

"PETsMART and PETsMART Charities recognize the serious problem of pet overpopulation, and the importance of increasing awareness about neutering and spaying pets," said Joyce Briggs, Executive Director of PETsMART Charities. "Our hope is that with the help of programs like the U.S. Postal Service's Neuter or Spay stamp, we take one step closer to stopping pet overpopulation and reaching our vision of a lifelong, loving home for every pet."

The Postal Service will distribute more than 21,000 panes of 20 stamps to PETsMART stores throughout the U.S. The $9.99 per-pane purchase price available at PETsMART stores includes a $2.59 donation to PETsMART Charities to fund local neuter and spay programs. Funds from this project will be used to further educate the public about the need to neuter or spay pets and to help reduce pet overpopulation. PETsMART Charities is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving homeless pets' lives.

PETsMART Charities (a member of American Partnership for Pets) will feature the stamps as the theme for its Fall 2002 "Just A Buck, Change Their Luck" fundraising campaign. During the three-week "Just A Buck" campaign, starting Saturday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Oct. 13, PETsMART customers are asked to donate "just a buck," or more, to help save the lives of homeless pets. Customers who donate $10 or more will receive a commemorative T-shirt featuring the U.S. Postal Service Neuter and Spay stamp design. The biannual "Just A Buck" campaign is PETsMART Charities largest source of funding, raising millions of dollars to save the lives of homeless pets from euthanasia.

PETsMART, Inc., (NASDAQ: PETM) is the largest specialty retailer of services and solutions for the lifetime needs of pets. The company operates 570 pet stores in the United States and Canada, as well as a large pet supply catalog business, and is the Internet's leading online provider of pet products and information (www.petsmart.com).
