Top Mailers Honored By Postal Service For Mentoring Programs

SAN DIEGO, CA -- The United States Postal Service today recognized 12 mailers for their mentoring programs at the National Postal Forum (NPF) in San Diego, CA.

Mentoring A Child commemorative postage stampJohns Hopkins University, 3M, Allstate, Compaq Computer, State Farm, Citigroup, Discover Financial Services, McGraw-Hill, USAA, American Express, Bank of America and Verizon received the special awards from Postmaster General John E. Potter.

In January 2002, the Postal Service began highlighting the subject by issuing the "Mentoring A Child" commemorative postage stamp as its social awareness stamp for the year. It joined a long list of 50 social awareness stamps that have been issued since the 1960s.

"We are pleased to honor these mailers for the outstanding mentoring programs they have implemented," said Potter. "These organizations are a good representation of the $900 billion mailing industry. Not only do they have a strong impact on our economy but, through programs such as mentoring, they make a significant social contribution to our country as well."

The National Postal Forum is a not-for-profit educational corporation created by a group of major postal customers and mailers who are committed to an ongoing partnership with the Postal Service. Its mission is to assist the Postal Service in building relationships with mailers and educating them in the most effective and efficient use of the products and services offered by the Postal Service.

Each year, the NPF hosts two forums which provide a wide range of opportunities for attendees. The Forum is the mailing industry's premier educational venue, trade show and networking event for industry professionals.

The "Mentoring A Child" stamp and philatelic products, as well as a free comprehensive catalog, are available by calling toll free 1-800-STAMP-24. In addition, a selection of current stamps and gift items are available online at the Postal Store at www.usps.com.
