Six Florida postal facilities have "medically insignificant" traces of anthrax

Environmental tests at six Florida postal facilities found medically insignificant traces of anthrax that health officials say were incapable of causing inhalation anthrax.

The facilities were decontaminated and health officials have certified their safety. The facilities are: the Main Post Office and the Blue Lake sorting facility in Boca Raton, the Main Post Office in Lake Worth, the Greenacres sorting facility, the Processing and Distribution Center in West Palm Beach and the Lucerne branch of the Lake Worth Post Office.

The Lantana branch of the Lake Worth Post Office tested negative. No postal employee in Florida has tested positive for anthrax.

The CDC has confirmed two anthrax traces in two trashcans at the Stamp Fulfillment Center in Kansas City, MO. The facility, which has been temporarily closed, does not process local mail, and no evidence exists of mail contamination in the Kansas City area.

The facility processes first-day cancellations and general stamp orders through the USPS toll-free number 1-800-STAMP-24, the USPS website, www.usps.com and the USA Philatelic catalog. Stamp orders may be slightly delayed due to the closing.
