"We mourn the loss of two of our own who died in the fight against terrorism."
"Today, we mourn the loss of two of our own who died in the fight against terrorism," said PMG Jack Potter. "Joseph Curseen and Thomas Morris lost their lives in the service of their country."
The Centers for Disease Control confirmed today that Curseen and Morris died of inhaled anthrax. Potter ordered American flags at all postal facilities be flown at half staff beginning tomorrow, Oct. 24, until after the employees' funerals.
"This is one war on two battlefields," the PMG said. "Rest assured that we intend to win this fight against those who have have attacked our country and our way of life."
Curseen, 47, of Clinton, MD, was a level 6 mail processor. He died Oct. 22. Morris, 55, of Suitland, MD, was a level 5 distribution clerk. Morris died Oct. 21. Both employees worked at the Brentwood mail processing facility in Washington, DC.
Potter said the Postal Service is taking additional measures to protect the American public and postal employees against the threat of anthrax exposure, including steps to sanitize the mail.
