Service Performance Continues At Record Levels

WASHINGTON – During its monthly Board of Governors meeting today, the Postal Service reported that First-Class Mail with a next-day delivery standard was delivered within that standard 94 percent of the time, marking the fifteenth consecutive quarter at 93 percent or higher.

Nine performance clusters or postal districts achieved scores of 96 percent, including Albuquerque, NM; Big Sky; Capital; Erie, PA; Greater Michigan; Honolulu, HI; North Florida; Van Nuys, CA and Western New York.

In other activity, the Board authorized funding to design and renovate a previously purchased building that will serve as the new West Bethesda Branch of the Bethesda, Maryland Post Office. The lease on the existing facility expires in June 2002, and cannot be renewed. Funding was also authorized to extend the current lease and to provide additional space for the Office of the Inspector General in Arlington, Virginia.
