Postcards A Penny More Starting July 1

WASHINGTON – Although the postage rate increase announced earlier this year will kick-in July 1, most consumers won't notice a big difference. The cost of mailing a letter or sending in a monthly bill payment will still be 34 cents.

A few consumer rates will increase, though. The cost of mailing a postcard will go up a cent to 21-cents, the first increase in the postcard postage rate since 1995. The cost of mailing heavier letters, like wedding invitations, will increase also, with additional ounces costing 23-cents each starting in July.

There are also changes in rates for business mail, advertising mail, periodicals, packages and a number of other categories. Complete charts reflecting the modified rates are available in Post Offices, in the Postal Bulletin dated May 31, and also online at www.usps.com.
