FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 17, 2001 Stamp Release No. 01-069 Postal Service Announces On-Line 'United We Stand' Stamp Pre-Ordering
WASHINGTON - One of many recent enhancements to the on-line Postal Store of the U.S. Postal Service is an option to "pre-order" stamps, or place orders for stamps in advance of the stamp release date. Orders are automatically shipped the day following the stamp's First Day of Issue. In the entire U.S. Postal Service, the on-line Postal Store is the only site where stamps can be pre-ordered. Available for pre-ordering now is the "United We Stand" definitive stamp. Since posted to the www.usps.com/shop site, thousands have taken advantage of the opportunity to pre-order. The stamp was designed within a few days of the tragic events of September 11 and unveiled to the American public October 2. It features a stirring image of "Old Glory" with the words "United We Stand" superimposed at the bottom. Explaining other new features and changes to the Postal Store, Norm Cloher, manager, On-line Services for the Postal Service, said, "There's a new look, and it's easier for customers to find the stamps and stamp products they need. We've been listening to our customers and are delighted to introduce both stamp pre-ordering and stamp subscription services. The line of products offered at the Postal Store will expand as functionality continues to improve, and it's expected the site will change frequently in the weeks and months ahead." Customers are invited to visit the Postal Store at www.usps.com to purchase stamps and participate in a Site Survey to share ideas and comments. Since its inauguration as Stamps Online in 1998, more than 1 million orders for stamps and stamp products from the U. S. Postal Service have been made over the Internet.
