Entry Information is a pilot service from the U.S. Postal Service that provides a way for the mailing industry to submit mailing information to the Postal Service.

Entry Information focuses on providing electronic notification to business mailing customers of USPS™ shipment induction. All business mailing customers that wish to take advantage of this service will receive electronic notification of the location, date and time that shipments are inducted into USPS processing facilities. Induction notification can be provided to customers via E-mail and/or summary file transmission, while summary mail entry data can be viewed on-line via informative data displays. Mail owners, mailers, consolidators, and transporters can utilize this information to both estimate the delivery schedule and to gain insight into a key point in the business mail supply-chain. USPS also benefits from this data by receiving notification of incoming mail volumes to facilitate advanced planning and promote operational efficiency. This system supports a more secure business environment for everyone.

In order to receive electronic notification, one of these business mailing customers must submit information, known as Electronic Mailing Data (EMD), to USPS for the relevant mailings and shipments. This data enables Entry Information to identify who should be notified when a shipment arrives at a USPS processing facility.

Entry Information customers can also submit PLANET™ Codes information to confirm using EMD. By using the EMD, customers will have a single point of entry for their mailing data. Customers who wish to do this will also have to become a PLANET Codes customer. Entry Information customers applying to PLANET Codes will not have to submit additional barcodes or ASN file samples. Entry Information customers who are also customers of PostalOne!™ service may use Mail.dat to submit EMD to Entry Information.
