Damaged, Lost or Stolen Money Orders
How to handle a lost/stolen Money Order.
Money orders keep your money safe. If your money order is lost or stolen, you can have it replaced.

Damaged Money Orders
The USPS® replaces without charge a defective money order or one that is damaged during imprinting or customer completion. The customer must return the negotiable portion of the money order and the matching customer receipt in order to receive a replacement.

Replacement of Lost or Stolen Money Orders
To replace a lost or stolen money order, a customer will need to fill our Form 6401 at a Post office and pay a fee of $5.40. After the USPS completes a payment inquiry on the status of the money order, a replacement can be issued.
