Let Your Mail Follow You Down the Road

Premium Forwarding Service — designed to meet the needs of a more mobile society

Premium Forwarding Service (PFS) is an additional option for residential customers who want to receive all of their mail at a temporary address. Residential customers, whose livelihood (retirees, seasonal travelers, etc.) takes them on the road for an extended period, are perfect candidates for PFS. With PFS, the Postal Service boxes and ships mail to a temporary address for customers who are away from their primary address for at least two weeks and up to one year. PFS is scheduled as a two-year experiment. It is designed to make life on the road or separation from friends and family a little easier.

"Customers won't have to wait for important correspondence and favorite magazines until they return home," said Stephen M. Kearney, Vice President of Pricing and Classification. "Premium Forwarding Service gives customers one more way to enjoy their mail in a timely manner."

Your post office accumulates your mail and, with some exceptions, boxes it and ships it each Wednesday to your temporary address by Priority Mail. Packages, as well as items requiring a delivery scan and/or signature, are separately rerouted to the temporary address.

"Convenience to the customer is key," said Nick Barranca, Vice President of Product Development. "Whatever your situation may be, the Postal Service has several convenient service options for handling your mail. You may be away from home, but your mail doesn't have to be away from you."

Residential customers complete an application at the Post Office serving their primary address. Necessary information including name, address of primary residence, temporary address, contact numbers and start and end dates is required. PFS does not replace hold mail service or traditional temporary and permanent piece-by-piece change-of-address options. These options remain available.Picture of Uncle Sam with a quote saying 'National Postal Customer Council Day! September 14, 2005 Will you be tuned in?

There is a $10 enrollment charge and $10 for each week of the enrollment period payable at application. For additional information, contact your local post office.
