Top-Notch Customer Education Is As Close To You As Your PCC!

Among the key goals of the PCC® Network is to transform PCCs into a premier network for customer education and training that facilitates growth for PCC member organizations. To assist with this goal, the USPS National Center for Employee Development (NCED) has joined forces by offering courses designed for mailers at PCC sites throughout the country, as well as at the NCED. The NCED is a USPS-owned, world-class training, learning, and conference facility located in Norman, Oklahoma. Courses are available for mailers as well as USPS employees.

Two training courses at the top of the list for mailers are:

The Executive Mail Center Manager (EMCM) Program. The EMCM course is a comprehensive training program for mailers to assist with developing mail center management skills. This course is designed to provide training on skills to manage more effectively, boost productivity, and cut costs. Individual modules cover people management, sales and marketing, operations, technology, safety, quality, finance, and plans and policy. With a minimum of 15 participants, this training can be arranged in your city through sponsorship by your Postal Customer Council.

Mail Design Professional (MDP). The MDP course provides mailers with in-depth training on postal standards related to designing (automation-compatible) letters and flats to facilitate processing on high-speed automated equipment. The course includes topics such as: designing automation-compatible letters and flats; basic addressing; forwarding and related services; barcode formats and print specifications; privately printed extra service (e.g., Certified Mail) labels; design of business reply and courtesy reply mailpieces; reading MERLIN reports, and more.

To date, over 20 PCCs have successfully delivered competency-based diploma courses including the EMCM Program and the MDP Program – first piloted by the New York City PCC in 2005. PCC’s are also offering customized certificate programs, addressing the specific needs of professionals using the mail. Through your PCC, you can find the right training programs to increase your knowledge and expertise, and achieve excellence and recognition in the mailing industry.

These programs respond to requests expressed by mailing industry professionals for state-of-the-art relevant and timely training that will result in higher levels of productivity and reduced costs. For more information on how to schedule training for your PCC or how you can register for this program, contact Heidi Cherry at heidi.cherry@usps.gov.
