U.S. Postal Service Ends 2005 with Remarkable ResultsAchievements highlighted in annual reportThe results are in - the U.S. Postal Service™ ended fiscal year 2005 (October 1, 2004 through September 30, 2005) with a record sixth consecutive year of growth in productivity, wiped out its debt and delivered fifty percent more mail to 32 million more homes and businesses than it did 20 years ago while doing it at 1985 staffing levels. These results are highlighted in the just released United States Postal Service Annual Report 2005. The report is available online at usps.com/history/anrpt05/. “These remarkable results reflect the strong efforts throughout the entire organization to remain focused on the transformational strategies we identified in 2002,” said Postmaster General John E. Potter and Board of Governors Chairman James C. Miller III. |
Joint U.S. Postal Service, Department of Defense Contract Aims to Improve Mail Service to Military Personnel Deployed OverseasAs part of sustained efforts to introduce efficiency and speed of mail to members of America’s Armed Forces serving overseas in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom, the U.S. Postal Service and the Department of Defense announced a contract award, that will provide an end-to-end network solution for all mail to civilian and military personnel deployed in the Middle East and Persian Gulf areas. The contract, awarded to Kallita Air, calls for the company to provide mail transportation to its hub in Bahrain, as well as mail security, all terminal handling, and transportation to Bahrain and 10 other major Defense Department hubs serving operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. The contract will take effect in February. Paul Vogel, vice president of Network Operations Management for the U.S. Postal Service, says the contract will help improve the efficiency, speed of delivery, and security of military postal services for the men and women serving in the Armed Forces. |
