New DMM Coming in March!

Sample cover of the New DMM

The new, reorganized Domestic Mail Manual (DMM 300) is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2005 at the National Postal Forum. The goal is to make the DMM as easy as possible for customers to use. Features of DMM 300 include new organization, rate charts, illustrations, numbering system, and an expanded index.

DMM 300 is designed around four familiar concepts:
1. Mailing method (retail or discount).
2. Mailpiece shape (letters and cards, flats, parcels).
3. Class and subclasses of mail (First-Class Mail, Periodicals, Standard Mail, Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter, Media Mail, and Library Mail).
4. Topic (rates and eligibility, postage payment and documentation, mail preparation, entry and deposit).

These concepts are presented in three main modules:

Retail Mailing Services
• Section 100, retail letters and cards, flats, and parcels.

Discount Mailing Services
• Section 200, discount letters and cards.
• Section 300, discount flats.
• Section 400, discount parcels.

General Information
• Section 500, additional services (e.g., certified mail, insured mail, business reply mail).
• Section 600, basic standards for all mailing services (e.g., addressing, hazardous material).
• Section 700, special standards (e.g., nonprofit eligibility, Periodicals, technical specifications).

The new DMM will help customers find information quickly, understand it more readily, and feel certain that they found the right information and all of the details they need.
