FINAL DECISION UNDER THE DEBT COLLECTION ACT OF 1982

By Order dated May 19, 2000, Respondent's request for an extension of time to file an Answer was granted. The new due date was May 30, 2000. That Order also noted that it appeared likely that no Notice of Involuntary Administrative Salary Offsets had yet been issued to Petitioner. Respondent's representative was directed to look into that before filing his Answer.

When no Answer was received, an Order was issued on June 6, 2000, stating that unless an Answer, or other appropriate pleading, was received in this office by June 19, 2000, the Petition would be granted without further notice. Respondent received that Order on June 12, 2000, but has filed nothing. Accordingly, the Petition is granted. Respondent may not withhold money from Petitioner's salary to collect the alleged debt.
