Honoring Those Who Served
This striking graphic representation of the American flag honors the men and women who have served or presently serve our country. Many have given their lives to protect our welfare. Others brave each new day, often unnoticed, to maintain peace and preserve our American ideals. With the issuance of this stamp, the Postal Service pays tribute to our military and brings awareness to the vital and varied roles these courageous individuals play to ensure peace, stop aggression and protect us from harm. Presently there are more than 2.3 million men and women who work in protective services, and there are more than 1.54 million people on active duty in the military. In addition, there are more than 25 million American veterans who live in the U.S. Art director Richard Sheaff and designer Uldis Purins developed the stamp’s graphic representation of the U.S. flag.
