TITLE:   COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEER

The United States Postal Service has the following excellent and challenging employment opportunity for highly motivated and innovative individuals to work in our Information Technology, Telecommunication Services office in RALEIGH, NC. Successful candidates must demonstrate through a combination of education, training, and experience the following requirements:

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Knowledge of telecommunications architecture in relation to national voice and data communications.
  2. Knowledge of network operating systems.
  3. Ability to monitor operations and perform problem resolution for wide area networks (WAN) and local area networks (LAN) to ensure service level agreements are met.
  4. Ability to translate long-term user requirements into network architecture statements that will provide direction for WANs/LANs and distributed telecommunications.
  5. Ability to identify and analyze telecommunications and network problems and/or deficiencies and develop programs to correct them.
  6. Ability to pilot, test, and analyze new technology for WANs and LANs.
  7. Ability to conduct training in use of network hardware and software.
  8. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to obtain information from systems planners and users and translate technical requirements into non-technical language.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS (for this duty assignment):
  1. Knowledge of firewall rules and operation.
  2. Ability to configure layer 3 switches, implement compliance and configuration management on various model switches, and configure and manage APs and Wireless Controllers.
  3. Ability to build and manage RADIUS, TACACS, and LMS servers.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION: A baccalaureate or post-graduate degree in business or information technology.

The salary range is $55,291 - $95,388. Salary will be based on previous experience, salary history, and current postal pay policies.
