Delivery, Distribution, and Retail - Exam 473
Positions:

City Carrier, Mail Processing Clerk, Mail Handler, and Sales, Services and Distribution Associate.

Most new employees are paid an hourly rate and work a flexible schedule as required by the workflow.

Qualified applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening to meet the U. S. Postal Service's Employment Requirements. Applicants must also be a U. S. citizen or have lawful permanent resident alien status.

City Carrier

Delivers and collects mail on foot or by vehicle providing customer service in a prescribed area.

Job Requirements:
  1. Carriers may be required to carry mailbags on their shoulders that can weigh up to 35 pounds.
  2. Carriers have to load and unload trays, containers of mail, and parcels weighing up to 70 pounds.
  3. Carrier duties require prolonged standing, walking, and reaching.
  4. Must work outdoors in all types of weather.
Notes:
City carrier applicants must have a current valid state driver’s license, a safe driving record, and at least two years of documented driving experience.

Mail Processing Clerk

Operates and monitors performance of automated mail processing equipment or performs manual sorting of mail. Mail Processing Clerks collate, bundle, and transfer processed mail from one area to another.

Job Requirements:
  1. Sometimes involves heavy lifting or transport of heavy containers.
  2. Continuous standing, stretching, and reaching.
Mail Handler

Loads and unloads containers of mail. Mail handlers transport mail and empty equipment throughout the building. They also open and empty containers of mail.

Job Requirements:
  1. Mail handlers repeatedly lift and carry parcels and containers weighing up to 70 pounds and push heavy rolling containers.
Sales, Services and Distribution Associate

Provides direct sales and customer support services in a retail environment and performs distribution of mail.

Job Requirements:
  1. Must successfully complete an on-the-job training program.

  3. Due to high call volumes, we recommend you apply online. Applying online will take approximately 2 minutes. Phone applications will take approximately 15 minutes.
  4. After you have applied, you will be sent a package that includes the exam date, time and location, along with materials to help you prepare.
  5. Take the exam. You must receive a passing score of 70 on the written examination to receive further employment consideration.
  6. If you are determined to be qualified, you will continue the process for employment consideration.
