Introduction

This publication provides guidance for the submission of a claim on lost or damaged domestic mail covered by postal insurance. It explains who can file a claim, as well as where, when, and how to file it.

Despite our best efforts, mail is occasionally lost or damaged. To meet the challenges of the twenty-first century, we continue to transform the Postal Service™ and its processes. Part of this transformation is focused on improvements to our processes to prevent lost or damaged mail.
