USPS Licensing

Stamps — Everyone uses them. Whether you are sending a birthday card, a letter to a loved one, or a bill payment or an invoice to a client, stamps do more than just pay for the best and most efficient mail delivery service in the world, They can deliver a personal message or feeling from you or your organization. From Breast Cancer Awareness to protecting our nation's natural resources, there is at least one stamp in our archive of more than 2,000 images that speaks to each American.

Trademarks, photographs, logos, and trade dress complete the complement of USPS intellectual property that is available for use in publishing, in advertising, on products, and in many other personal and professional applications. USPS Licensing protects the use and application of all USPS intellectual property.

There are four categories of USPS stamp art and intellectual property use:

Promotional Product/Corporate Gift Program

The Promotional Product/Corporate Gift Program allows for the sale of items back to the USPS and employees. The USPS purchases products from licensees who have permission to make product bearing the USPS logo and other marks.

These items are often used for promotional purposes, to create stamp awareness at First Day of Issue ceremonies, or to be sold to the public at trade shows or community festivals. Postmasters and managers also purchase these products as employee incentives or to honor our employees at times of tribute. Many of the Postal Service's almost 800,000 employees express their enthusiasm for being a part of a world-class organization by wearing apparel, jewelry, hats, and other items bearing USPS marks.

Commercial Licensing Program

Commercial Licensing is defined as the use of USPS intellectual property in the commercial marketplace. This type of licensing does not include products sold in USPS retail lobbies or for any product sold to back to the USPS or USPS employees.
