Wenatchee Post Office sets Passport Fair for Saturday, October 25

WENATCHEE — The U.S. Postal Service is making it easier and more convenient for customers to apply for a passport with a Passport Fair set for Saturday, October 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Wenatchee Post Office, 301 Yakima St., according to Postmaster Mel Miller.

Passport fees are separate payments of $75 for age 16 and older or $60 for minors under age 16.  This fee must be paid by check or money order payable to the Department of State.  An execution fee of $25 per applicant may be paid with cash, check, credit or debit card to USPS.  Passport photos are available for an additional $15.

The U.S. Department of State imposed new passport regulations last year. All persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda are required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS Card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.  Effective June 1, 2009, all U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry must have a passport or a passport card.

Customers applying for a passport must provide the following — a passport application (available at the event or online); proof of U.S. citizenship (previous U.S. passport, certified U.S. birth certificate, consular report of birth abroad or certification of birth, or a Certificate of Naturalization); valid identification, and two passport-size photos (which can be taken at the event for an additional $15).

For minors under age 16, both parents or legal guardians must be present with valid picture identification.  Proof of citizenship for the minor and proof of relationship must be provided.  If only one parent appears a notarized statement from the able parent, evidence of sole custody or a written statement explaining the absence of the second parent is required.  Minor children applying for a passport must appear in person.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
