Sherry Cowles is sworn in as Postmaster of Albany

Sherry Cowles and Don Lemay

SHERRY COWLES, an ancestor of three former Albany VT Postmasters, was sworn in as the new Postmaster on September 23.  Sherry’s cousin, Alvin Hovey served in that position in 1861 and great-great-great Uncle and Aunt Roscoe and Bertha Cowles held the office in 1897 and 1906 respectively.  Don Lemay, Post Office Operations Manager for the New Hampshire/Vermont District of the Postal Service administered Sherry’s oath at a ceremony at the Albany Post Office.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
