The U.S. Postal Service Hosts a Passport Day at the Alburg Library

| Background: | International air travelers now require a passport. Travelers who fly to and from the United States are now required to have a passport to enter or re-enter the United States. Sea and land crossings to and from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean will require either the new U. S. Passport Card or a government-issued photo ID, such as a drivers license, plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. Anyone planning travel outside the United States can apply for a passport, passport card or renew an old passport during this Passport Day. Passport photo service will also be available. Identification needed to apply for a passport includes proof of U.S. citizenship in the form of a certified birth certificate or naturalization papers. And, proof of identity such as a drivers license, old passport, military ID, etc. Social Security number and parents’ place of birth will be required, as well. Both parents must be present to apply for a passport for children under 16 years of age or have a notarized parental consent form if one parent cannot be present. The fee is $100.00 for a 16 year old or older and $85.00 for a child 15 years of age or younger. Expedited service is available for an additional fee. Passport cards are $45.00 for adults and $35.00 for children. Passport photos are available for $15.00. Save time by completing and printing your passport application in advance at www.usps.com/passport and click on “Passport Application Form.” Bring the unsigned form with you to the Passport Day event.
