Several Area Post Offices Closing Early on Christmas Eve

Last Minute Service Still Available in All Cities

WHAT:       Early closing of postal retail operations

WHO:         Multiple U.S. Postal Service facilities in the Hampton Roads area

WHEN:       Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, postal retail lobbies in the cities listed below will close at 12 noon except for those noted offices below.  These offices will maintain normal retail hours unless otherwise noted.  Post Offices in cities not shown in the list will also maintain normal retail hours.

WHERE:     Chesapeake – Chesapeake Main Office, 1425 Battlefield Blvd. North (23320)
Hampton – Riverdale Station, 1062 W. Mercury Blvd. (23666)
Newport News – Warwick Station, 10830 Warwick Blvd. (23601)
Norfolk – Norfolk Main Office, 600 Church St., (23501) and
Thomas Corner Station, 190 Janaf Shopping Center (23502)
Portsmouth – Portsmouth Main Office, 933 Broad St. (23707)
Virginia Beach – Acredale Station, 1225 Kempsville Rd. (23464)
Seapines Station, 320 33rd St. (23451)
Virginia Beach Main Office, 501 Viking Dr. (23452)  Closes at 5:30 p.m.

BACKGROUND:
Customer traffic at postal retail counters decrease significantly on Christmas Eve.  To balance anticipated customer needs with efficient use of postal resources, many area postal retail lobbies will close at 12 noon.  At least one retail lobby will maintain normal retail hours in those cities with early closings.  

Normal delivery service and scheduled collection of mail from lobby drops and collection boxes will be maintained on Christmas Eve.
