Glen Allen Post Office will host a Passport Fair this Saturday

Post Office reminds travelers of new passport requirements

It seems like you need a passport to go just about anywhere these days.

Since 2007, travelers have needed a passport to enter or reenter the United States by air.  Starting in June of 2009 anyone entering the U.S. by land and sea ports must also have a passport.

Sound confusing?  The Glen Allen Post Office at 4990 Sadler Place (near Innsbrook) will host a “Passport Fair” this Saturday, August 23rd, from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm.  They can process your new application, assist in renewing your old passport and answer questions to make sure travelers have what they need before taking off on their cruise or road trip.

What you will need to bring to apply for a passport:

Proof of U.S. citizenship (certified birth certificate, Certificate of Naturalization/Citizenship, previous passport)
Proof of identification (valid driver’s license, military or government ID)

Applicants under 16 years of age must have both parents/legal guardians appear with them or provide a notarized statement of consent from the absent parent.

The cost for a passport is $100.00 for ages 16 and older (good for 10 years) and $85.00 for ages 15 and younger (good for 5 years).  As a convenience, the Post Office will be taking the required passport photos for a $15.00 fee.

For further information on applying for a passport, or to download the application (form DS-11), please go to www.usps.com/passports or http://travel.state.gov

For directions, please call the Glen Allen Post Office at (804) 270-5573.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
