US Postal Service to Hold Passport Application Fair This Saturday

Walnut Hill Post Office in Petersburg will host the event

PETERSBURG — The Walnut Hill Post Office, 3131 South Crater Rd., Petersburg, VA 23805 will hold a Passport Application Fair this SATURDAY, July 26, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. until 1 pm.

Beginning in June of 2009, ALL travelers will be required to present a passport for ALL means of travel (air, land and sea) to ALL foreign countries, including Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, South/Central America and the Caribbean.

Submitting an application now will ensure travelers beat the inevitable rush early next year.  Passport Fairs provide an easy, convenient way for individuals and families alike to apply.  They are held on Saturdays so people do not have to miss school or work, and no appointment is necessary.  We also have extra staff on hand to make the application process quick and efficient.

Applicants will need to bring proof of US citizenship (certified birth certificate or Certificate of Naturalization/Citizenship) and proof of identification (driver’s license, military or government ID).

Minors under 16 years of age must be accompanied by both parents or provide a notarized permission statement from the absent parent.

The cost is $100 for ages 16 and older, $85 for ages 15 and younger. Official passport photos will be taken at the fair for $15.

For further information about applying for a passport and for directions to the individual post offices, please visit www.usps.com/passports or www.travel.state.gov

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
