Montpelier Station Post Office Closing For Renovations

Services Will Be Provided at Somerset Post Office

MONTPELIER STATION, VA –  Bobby Abernethy, Mountain Area Manager, Post Office Operations, announced postal services at Montpelier Station Post Office will be temporarily suspended while the facility that houses the Post Office is renovated.  Beginning Wednesday, May 28, customers who normally receive mail at Montpelier Station Post Office can pick up their mail at Somerset Post Office, located 3.6 miles away.

Customers were also notified in a letter from Abernethy that a change of address would not be required although Post Office Box service, as well as retail services, would be provided at Somerset Post Office, which is open for service from 8 a.m. to 12 noon,  and 1 to 4:30 p.m.; Monday through Friday, and 8 – 11 a.m. on Saturday.  Abernethy urges box holders to remind their correspondents to use the appropriate post office box number and Montpelier Station ZIP Code of 22957.

“I realize that with change there is always concern,” said Abernethy.  “Service will resume at the Montpelier Station Post Office when renovations are completed.”

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
