Northern Virginia District earns USPS 5 Star Customer Service Award

Merrifield VA — Northern Virginia customers say their local Post Offices are among the best in the nation for providing efficient, timely and accurate service, according to surveys conducted by The Gallup Organization.

But this isn’t the first time. In fact, it marks the tenth consecutive quarter in which the Northern Virginia District has received a five-star rating as part of the Postal Service’s 5 Star Customer Service program. Offices earning four consecutive quarterly awards receive bronze stars; silver stars are presented to offices winning the award for eight consecutive quarters; and gold stars go to those offices who can maintain their excellence for 12 consecutive quarters.

“We have a demonstrated history of providing excellent service to our customers, and we are very honored to receive this rating,” said District Manager Michael Furey. “It shows that our customers value the excellent service the employees in this district provide.”

Gallup surveys — mailed to a random sampling of residential and small business customers each month — ask customers to describe their retail and delivery experiences and rate offices on efficiency, accuracy of delivery, consistency of delivery and wait-time-in-line.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
