Special Stamp Dedication Ceremony Honoring Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Announced

Merrifield VA — A special stamp dedication ceremony will be held April 11th during the YWCA 2008 National Conference and Annual General Assembly. Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (1896-1953) is featured on the 41 cent stamp which is part of the US Postal Service’s Literary Arts commemorative stamp series.

In the foreground of the stamp art is a portrait of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings based on an undated photograph. The background depicts a fawn at a watering hole in the Florida scrub country. Rawlings was best known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Yearling, and her memoir Cross Creek.  Rawlings is also remembered for a series of short stories, novels and works of nonfiction about life in the Florida backwoods.

U.S. Postal Service Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Mary Ann Gibbons will be present to unveil the stamp during the ceremony.

The event will be held at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, 5000 Seminary Road, Alexandria, Virginia, 22311 at 9:45 AM.
