Local letter carriers ask for customer support to deliver mail with icy, snowy conditions

Washington, DC—Customers in the Greater Washington DC Metropolitan area can help delivery of their mail by ensuring that letter carriers have a clear path to mail receptacles.  The old saying, “Neither snow, nor rain (etc.) will keep these couriers from their daily rounds…” is true because carriers will struggle to come to work and make every effort to deliver to all addresses no matter what the weather conditions.  However, if mailboxes are blocked or sidewalks are icy, carriers must consider safety first.

Whether your mail arrives on foot or by postal vehicle, the carrier needs to be able to approach the mailbox to deposit mail.  Please help out your letter carrier and ensure you receive mail in icy and snowy conditions.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $73 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
