Automated Postal Centers Make Holiday Mailing Easy for Utahns

The Post Office reminds Utahns that where there’s an Automated Postal Center there is a quick and convenient way to ship your holiday packages, no matter the time or day.

Automated Postal Centers, located in 29 postal lobbies across the Wasatch Front, allow customers to purchase stamps, and weigh and mail cards and packages 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using their debit or credit cards. It’s the Postal Service’s version of the ATM, but without the fees.

In addition to dispensing stamps and postage in any amount for Express Mail, Priority Mail, First-Class Mail and Parcel Post services, APCs also provide mailing information, ZIP Code lookup, Certified and Insured Mail, Return Receipt, Delivery Confirmation and other services.

The APCs can be found in most Salt Lake metro area Post Offices, two Ogden Post Offices – Ben Lomond and Mount Ogden; and all Post Offices in American Fork, Layton, Roy, Orem, Provo, Logan and St. George. To find the nearest APC, call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) or go online to usps.com and click on “Locate a Post Office.”

“APCs enable our customers to conduct business with us at their convenience,” said USPS Salt Lake District Manager Ken McArthur.

The APC employs a touch screen and numeric keypad for customers to select products and services and receive postal information. A convenient parcel slot next to the APC accepts packages up to 12 inches high by 14 inches deep by 20 inches wide.

While APCs are convenient, Utahns don’t even have to leave the comfort of home to ship holiday packages. Using Click-N-Ship at usps.com, customers can print postage-paid mailing labels for Express Mail, Priority Mail and International Mail and request a free package pickup the next day by their letter carrier. Up to $500 of insurance is available, and customers using Click-N-Ship enjoy discounts of up to 11 percent off regular Post Office prices. Delivery Confirmation is free when mailing online.

“Whether it’s our Automated Postal Centers or Click-N-Ship at usps.com, customers who have tried them love them,” said McArthur.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
