Utah Post Offices to offer assistance to last-minute income tax filers on April 15

SALT LAKE CITY — Twenty-six Utah Post Offices will provide late-night collections of mail on Tuesday, April 15 to assist last-minute tax filers. In addition, three Post Offices will extend window service hours until midnight and 29 locations have Automated Postal Centers, which are available 24/7 (see the attached listing of Post Offices and services provided).

Those wanting to avoid the crowds are encouraged to mail their tax returns early in the day. Correct postage is a must. First-Class letter-size postage is 41 cents for the first ounce and 17 cents for each additional ounce.

Postal customers are encouraged to check the collection times posted on each box to ensure pick up on April 15. Those who mail late in the day April 15 should take their tax returns to collection boxes located directly outside Post Offices with extended hours. While three Post Offices are extending retail hours, stamps can always be purchased through Automated Postal Centers, which accept debit and credit cards.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
