Automated Postal Centers Popular with Utahns during Holidays

Offer 24/7 Mailing Convenience

SALT LAKE CITY — Automated Postal Centers, located in 29 Post Offices from St. George to Logan, have proven popular with Utahns, especially during the holiday season. Last year between Thanksgiving and Christmas Utahns made nearly 150,000 visits to the self serve kiosks. Postal officials expect that number to increase this year.

“Automated Postal Centers enable our customers to conduct business with us at their convenience,” said Salt Lake District Manager Ken McArthur. “It’s the Postal Service’s version of the ATM, but without the fees. Once people try them they’re hooked.”

The most popular APCs in the state are in Bountiful, West Jordan, Sugarhouse and the Orem Main Post Office. The least used APCs include the Salt Lake Millcreek Post Office, Ogden Main Post Office and the Airport Post Office located just south of the Salt Lake Airport.

The APC allows customers to purchase stamps, and weigh and mail cards and packages 24/7 using their debit or credit cards. The APC uses a touch screen and numeric keypad for customers to select products and services and receive postal information. A convenient parcel slot next to the APC accepts packages up to 12 inches high by 14 inches deep by 20 inches wide. The APCs also provide mailing information, ZIP Code lookup, Certified and Insured Mail, Return Receipt, Delivery Confirmation and other services.

Automated Postal Centers can be found in 10 Post Offices in Salt Lake City, three Post Offices in Ogden, two Post Offices in Sandy, Provo, Orem and St. George, and in Post Offices in American Fork, Bountiful, Draper, Layton, Logan, Riverton, Roy, and West Jordan.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
