Customers can call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) or go online at usps.com, to get the holiday customer service hours of their local Post Office, purchase holiday stamps, print postage-paid mailing labels, request a free Package Pickup, check rates, ZIP Codes and more.

Automated Postal Centers are located in the lobbies of 29 Utah Post Offices from St. George to Logan, making mailing holiday packages convenient and 24/7. These self-service kiosks are easy to use and accept credit and debit cards.

Customers are encouraged to use Priority Mail through Dec. 20, and Express Mail through Dec. 22. Last-minute packages can be delivered Christmas Eve and Christmas Day – via Express Mail.

The last date for military mail going to the war zone is Dec. 4, and Dec. 18 for all other military addresses. International mail deadlines are Dec. 4 for First-Class Mail and Priority Mail going to Africa and Central and South America, and Dec. 11 for all other countries. International mail can be sent as late as Dec. 19, using Global Express Guaranteed Service.

Holiday mailing tips:

  • When preparing your package for mailing, use a strong, sturdy box, available at Post Office.
  • Package the contents of your parcel tightly and securely; using newspaper, bubble wrap or other cushioning available at your Post Office. Package cookies, fruitcake, and food items in leak-proof containers or secure protective wrapping.
  • Use Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes to send your gifts – up to 70 pounds to any destination in the USA – for just $8.95. The boxes are available for free at any Post Office, and online at usps.com/shippingsupplies.
  • Seal your package with strong, reinforced packing tape. Do NOT use paper or string on the outside of the package. They can get tangled in mail processing equipment.
  • Never guess at a ZIP Code  -- No ZIP is better than a wrong ZIP.
  • Virtually all of the services found at a Post Office are available from the comfort of home at usps.com. Nearly a million customers a day go to the award-winning website to find ZIP Codes, buy stamps, mail packages, request a free Package Pickup and more.
  • Print addresses clearly. Include all address elements, including apartment numbers, suite numbers, and directional information. Print return address in the upper left corner.
  • The best time for taking your packages directly to the Post Office for mailing is mid-morning or mid-afternoon.
  • Package senders are encouraged to purchase Delivery Confirmation service and Insurance.
  • Remove batteries from toys. Wrap and place them next to the toys in the mailing box.
  • For holiday cards and letters, the Post Office offers several colorful 41-cent Holiday stamps including Holiday Knits, Madonna & Child, Eid, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
