Passport by Appointment at Select Utah Post Offices

SALT LAKE CITY — To better facilitate the high demand for passports created by the Western Hemisphere Travel Act of 2007, some USPS passport acceptance offices are now scheduling appointments for applicants. This will eliminate the wait time for applicants, and make it more convenient.

The following Post Offices in Utah are now scheduling appointments: Bountiful, Layton, Lehi, Magna, Salt Lake Main Office, Sandy Main Office, St. George, and West Jordan. Customers are encouraged to call 1-800-ASK-USPS to obtain the phone numbers and addresses for those offices and schedule an appointment. Each location offers one-stop shopping for passports, including photos.

According to the U.S. State Department, passport applications are at an all-time high, so travelers should allow 10 weeks for their passport applications to be processed. Those making trip reservations should plan accordingly. There is an expedited process for an additional fee.

To save time, customers are encouraged to download passport application documents at usps.com/passport and fill out beforehand. However, don’t sign the application form, as the passport acceptance clerk must witness the signing.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to cover its operating expenses. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $73 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
