Salt Lake Air Mail Center Will Not Be Consolidated

Ogden’s Town Station Still Under Review

SALT LAKE CITY—Postal officials in Utah announced today that the Salt Lake Air Mail Center Station located at 320 N. 3700 West, is no longer being considered for consolidation.

“Other operational consolidations are being considered with the Air Mail Center Station, so it will remain open at this time,” said USPS Marketing Manager Robert Vunder

While the Salt Lake Air Mail Center Station is no longer being studied for consolidation, Vunder says it doesn’t preclude future studies.

Still under consideration for consolidation is the Ogden Town Station located at 2730 Washington Blvd.

“We took a look at the data gathered so far and determined that we will continue to study the possible consolidation of the Ogden Town Station,” said Vunder.

The study considers many things, including impacts to customer access, employees, cost savings, and service standards, along with reviews of the availability of alternate retail services, facility space, and other operational items.

If the Ogden Town Station were to be consolidated, it would not occur until late this year at the earliest. The public will have an opportunity to provide input before a final decision is made.

Current economic conditions and technological advances such as email are combining to change the way people use and access services and products offered by the United States Postal Service, a self-supporting independent federal agency. Ongoing mail volume and revenue losses demand that the USPS review all postal operations to find opportunities to provide service more efficiently.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 149 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes, six days a week. It has 34,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services, not tax dollars, to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
