Utah Post Offices to Close for Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Outgoing Mail to be Collected and Processed as Usual

Customers Encouraged to Use Automated Postal Centers on Holiday

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday Jan. 19, all Utah Post Offices will be closed and there will be no regular mail delivery, except for Express Mail.  However, postal customers in Salt Lake City and all larger cities across the state are encouraged to mail their outgoing letters on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as mail collections and mail processing will be unaffected by the holiday.

“If you have letters to mail on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, go ahead and mail them in the nearest blue collection box,” said USPS Salt Lake District Manager Ken McArthur. “The mail will be collected, postmarked and on its way to its destination.”  Mail placed in collection boxes will be picked up according to the regular collection times posted on each box and not the holiday collection schedule.

Automated Postal Centers are located in the lobbies of 29 Utah Post Offices, making mailing packages convenient and 24/7. These self-service kiosks, available 365 days a year, are easy to use and accept credit and debit cards.

Customers can also print postage-paid shipping labels from the comfort of their home or business using the Postal Service’s Click-N-Ship on-line package service. There is no extra charge for the service, and you receive free delivery confirmation with your packages. Click-N-Ship is available on the postal website at usps.com/clicknship. Customers can also request a free pickup of those packages the next delivery day by going to usps.com/pickup
